Oduduwa is a key figure in Yoruba history and myth. According to the creation story, he came from the sky with earth, a rooster, and a palm nut, and used them to create land from the ocean. He is seen as the first ruler of Ile-Ife, known as the birthplace of the Yoruba people. His children and descendants are believed to have started many Yoruba kingdoms like Oyo and Benin. After his rule, he was honoured as a divine ancestor. Some stories also say he may have been a real prince from other regions, but all traditions see him as the founder of Yoruba civilization. .
